By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The latest jacket of the platform related to Iran's South Pars gas field will be installed in the section C of the phase 13 of the gas field.

Installation of the platform, dubbed "SPD 13", will take 14 days, Iran's Shana news agency reported on April 22.

The platform jacket weighs 1995 metric tons and is 72 meters high and has been built by the Iranian Marine Industrial Company (SADRA).

So far, three jackets have been installed at the phase 13 of the gas field and drilling operations by three rigs are progressing.

The development plan of the phase 13 has envisaged drilling 38 wells. Drilling operations are underway by a consortium comprising Petro Paydar Iranian, SADRA, and MAPNA both in onshore and offshore sections.

Iran holds 17% of the world's proved natural gas reserves and more than one-third of OPEC's reserves.

Iran's largest gas field is South Pars, a non-associated gas field located offshore in the middle of the Persian Gulf. South Pars is a portion of a larger gas structure that straddles the territorial water borders of Iran and Qatar. It is called the North field in Qatar. South Pars reserves account for roughly 40 percent of Iran's total gas reserves, and the field is also estimated to hold 17 million barrels of condensate in place.

The phase 13 of the South Pars field is projected to yield 50 million cubic meters of gas, 80,000 barrels of gas condensates, 2900 metric tons of LPG, and 400 metric tons of sulfur per day.
