Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's trip to Iran came with many good outcomes, especially in economy, transit, border affairs, customs, and transit, Trade Attaché at the Afghan Embassy in Tehran Abdolhadi Farhang told Trend on April 25.

The official hoped that grounds would be laid for Afghanistan to use Iran's capabilities in water treatment, electricity, energy, and power plant projects.

He further pointed out that the two countries' trade turnover has boomed from $100 million to $2.5 billion.

"Iran's export to Afghanistan stands at about $2.5 billion and its import from Afghanistan at about $50 billion," he stated.

The official said that Iran's exports to Afghanistan comprise of 3 parts.

The first part, which is technical service exports, covers many projects in the areas of electricity, roads, and construction.

Also, there is the goods export part which includes oil condensates, oil, gas, detergents, construction material, hygiene product, etc., according to Farhang.

Nevertheless, he said, Iranian companies have had an increasing presence in technical knowhow studies as well as mines in Afghanistan, were Iranian companies of various sizes have entered.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Ghashghavi said November 1 that trade turnover between Iran and Afghanistan reaches $4 billion.

Afghanistan was the fourth biggest importer of Iranian goods during the first seven months of the past Iranian fiscal year (March 21 - October 22, 2014).

Iran exported $1.335 billion worth of goods to its eastern neighbor during the period.
