Fury over salaries shakes up pay scale in Iran

Iranian supreme council of salaries (Shoray-e aliy-e huquq va dastmozd) has announced its latest decision on the maximum level of salaries following the revelations of astronomical salaries paid to a group of senior officials in Iran.

According to the decision those officials who occupy political positions are not allowed to receive more than 100,000,000 rials (around $3,230 according to the official rate on July 26) per month, Iranian government spokesman, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, told reporters July 26, IRNA news agency reported.

In the meantime, those officials and managers who hold non-political positions cannot receive more than 189,000,000 rials (about $6,105) per month, the spokesman added.

Fury among Iranians erupted when it was revealed that vast salaries were paid to a group of senior government officials.

The scandal stirred up widespread anger in the country leading to the dismissal of several financial officials.
