Iran says nuclear deal within reach if other side shows political will

Iran says nuclear deal will be within reach if the other side shows political will.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran and the West should reach an agreement on details by Iranian calendar month of Tir (June 22-July 23), Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Feb. 20.

"The Supreme Leader has specified a framework for reaching an agreement and we have been bound to the framework."

"Iran wants a reasonable and good agreement. If such an agreement has not yet reached, that is due to the fact that the other side doesn't have the required political will," Zarif said.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi said on Feb. 12 that the technical issues have complicated the nuclear negotiations between Iran and P5+1.

Salehi said, "I am hopeful that nuclear agreement would be reached in scheduled time, but the prediction of the results is really hard."

Iran and P5+1 agreed in November 2014 to extend the nuclear talks to June.30. According to the agreement, the sides should reach a political accord in March and reach the comprehensive agreement by self-imposed deadline on June 30.

However, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced last week that he doesn't agree with a "two-stage accord" in the Islamic Republic's nuclear case.

The talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) were extended until June 30, 2015 to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement. However, the sides attempt to reach a political accord in March.

After the parties failed to meet the November 24, 2014 deadline they also extended the Geneva nuclear deal, which was signed in November 2013 for providing Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.
