By the new year the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili pardoned 407 prisoners.The Minister of Corrections, probation and legal aid Khatuna Kalmakhelidze said about this at the briefing.
According to her, overall number of pardoned is 407 . Of these, 399 prisoners are granted full pardon, 58 convicts` sentences are reduced by half, the sentences of six are reduced to a fixed term and four convicts` conditional sentences are taken. Among those pardoned 16 women and one minor.
"The Department of Corrections is ready to take all necessary measures that pardoned ones will have all been released immediately to meet the new year with their families" - said Kalmakhelidze.
