Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar here Monday held foreign countries responsible for unrest in the region, IRNA reported.

He stressed the need for joint efforts among the regional countries to counter narcotics cultivation and trafficking and said that foreign countries cannot eliminate the menace of drug trafficking from the region.

Responding to a question by IRNA he said that it is a pity that those countries that have been talking about narcotics control have become responsible for the spread of the menace in the region.

"In our opinion foreign countries cannot eliminate drug trafficking from the region that is why regional countries should continue their joint efforts to counter narcotics," he noted.

Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said that trilateral forum to counter narcotics between Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan have proved successful adding that other countries of the region should also come forward to control drug trafficking.

The Iranian minister said that Regional Ministerial Conference on Counter-narcotics would raise the level of the efforts to counter narcotics.

He said that Pakistan and Iran are two brotherly countries that share same religion, history and culture.

Mostafa Mohammad Najjar was of the opinion that both nations want to further enhance the close relationship between the two countries.

He said that governments of both the countries should further cement their ties according to the whishes of their people.

Iran's Interior Minister added that he has come to Pakistan on the invitation of President Asif Ali Zardari to participate in the Regional Ministerial Conference on Counter-narcotics.

He said that the objective of his visit is to boost Pakistan-Iran cooperation in economic and trade sector, strengthening security relations and discussing border management.

Mohammad-Najjar said that Iran is actively participating in the conference. He said that 3,700 Iranians have lost their lives in combating drug trafficking while 11,000 have been injured.
