Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 January / corr. Trend R. Hafizoglu/ The visit of Pervez Musharraf, the President of Pakistan, to European countries is aimed at gaining support on the threshold of elections to be held in Pakistan in February.
"By visiting Europe Pervez Musharraf is enlisting pre-election support from these countries," Abdulhey Anis, a Pakistani political expert said to Trend from Islamabad by telephone.
According to Qatar's Al-Jazira TV channel, Pervez Musharraf, the President of Pakistan, began his official visit to European countries on 21 January.
"By visiting Europe, Musharraf wants to show these countries that other political parties cannot fight against Al-Qaida terrorists both in Pakistan and at its borders," the political scientist said.
According to Anis, Musharraf's efforts to obtain political allies will be unsuccessful.
"The situation in Pakistan gives grounds to say that the presidential elections fixed for 18 February will not take place. Musharraf's resignation is required to achieve stability in Pakistan and to hold elections. Otherwise, the situation in the county will aggravate further," the expert said.
