Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 April / Trend corr G. Jabiyev/ The document on supplements and changes in the Election Code, passed by the Azerbaijani Government jointly with the Venice Commission, does not envisage the formation of election committees on parity basis, Azerbaijani Vice-Speaker Bahar Muradova said to the journalists on 7 April.

The Azerbaijani Government and Venice Commission completed their discussions on the improvement of Azerbaijan's Election Code. The Bill on supplements and changes in the Election Code will be put for consideration at the Parliament in the near future.

Azerbaijan's opposition parties earlier applied to the Venice Commission suggesting re-formation of the country's election committees on parity basis.

On 7 April, the First Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Askarov said to the journalists that mainly technical changes will be made in the Election Code. According to Askarov, democratic elections may be held also with the present Election Code.

The European Union in its report on Azerbaijan, which was published on 3 April, called on Azerbaijan to change the composition of Central Election Committee and ordinary election committees to ensure the trust of voters and candidates.
