Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 June / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The information agency Trend held a poll amongst representatives of different age categories in Azerbaijan. The aim of the poll was to crystal clear how well the Azerbaijani citizens are informed about the attributes of their country. About sixty people took part in the poll.
Youth, of 25-30 age group, knew the right arrangement of colors on the state flag and their meaning. Many of the polled young people found it difficult to enumerate the symbols on the State Emblem. The respondents recalled only one name out of two composers of the anthem - Uzeir Hajibayov. While answering to a question that how do they feel after listening to the state anthem, some respondents said that they feel pride and others - grief and regret.
Juveniles, from 10-5 age group, could not tell the right arrangement of symbols on the flag and felt difficulty in explaining their meanings. All the questioned juveniles admitted that they do not know the shape of the State Emblem, but know the authors of the anthem. The respondents said that the state anthem does not arouse any emotion amongst them.
The respondents, from 40-45 age group, said they respect all the state attributes. They gave the right arrangement of colors, but were unable to explain their meanings. Some respondents could recall only the composer of the anthem. The author of the Anthem's text is Ahmad Javad, while most of the respondents gave the name of Huseyn Javad.
The three colored flag with a half moon and star was adopted during the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan on 9 November 1918. The blue color in the flag represents the need of Turkization, green represents the need of Islamization and red represents the need of modernization and progress, following the European example.
The State Emblem pictures escutcheon with oak branches, as well as wheat ears and eight angles star with a flame in centre.
The Bill on State Anthem of Azerbaijan was passed on 27 May 1992. Under the Bill, the music composed by the Huzeir Hajibayov and text by the poet Ahmad Javad were affirmed as the State Anthem of the country.
