Marneuli TV to teach Azerbaijani people Georgian language

The Marneuli TV television company which broadcasts in several regions of Kvemo-Kartli populated by Azerbaijanis will launch implementation of its new project in October.

Weekly TV lessons of Georgian language will be prepared for Azerbaijani people, the Internews Georgia Fund said. These will be simulated lessons with participation of 10-12 pupils, Marneuli TV Director Shalva Shubladze said.

Similar educational programs were demonstrated in national TV of the former USSR. Then they were teaching French.

Specialists of the University of Linguistics were invited to hold this TV lesson, Shubladze said.

According to Shubladze, Azerbaijani population shows interest in studying Georgian language. Ethnic Azerbaijanis faced difficulties to communicate with Georgians because they do not know Georgian. It is especially difficult for the youth who do not know Russian, too.

The Open Society-Georgia Fund finances this project.
