A conference held in the Science and Education Center of the Prosecutor General's Office on Monday tackled the question of combating drug addiction and trafficking in Azerbaijan.

First Deputy Prosecutor General, Rustam Usubov, spoke about drug addiction in the country and the preventive measures taken to combat it, a report of proceedings a the conference, "Relevant Problems in the Fight Against Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursors," said.

Usubov said that all measures have been successfully undertaken thanks to the lead given in the issue by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Usubov underlined the creation of favorable conditions to successfully carry out treatment and rehabilitation activities in the field of medicine, education, sports and a significant increase in the activity of prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in this area.

Views about drug abuse prevention, identification of people suffering from addiction, their registration and their medical treatment were exchanged at the meeting. The participants noted the need to hold prevention activities at schools. They discussed the strategy to combat drug trafficking, psychotropic substances and precursors. They also proposed the use of effective methods of international practice in the country.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani Supreme Court, General Prosecutor's Office, the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.
