Georgia will support Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization if it complies with the requirements of the organization, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at a meeting of government today.

According to him, particularly this refers to transparent customs checkpoints. The Prime Minister noted that this issue was discussed during his visit to the United States.

"Members of the Georgian delegation made speeches at several American institutions, and discussions covered Russia's accession to the WTO. We have clearly stated that we welcome membership of the Russian Federation to the WTO only if all the rules of the organization are implemented. And we mean the main - transparency of customs checkpoints, which today, unfortunately, is not followed on the Georgian-Russian border," Gilauri said, noting that it deals with those customs checkpoints which are located on the occupied territories.
