The World Health Organization (WHO) decided to include Turkmenistan in the list of countries where malaria is eliminated, the national television channel Altin Asyr reports.
This decision was taken based on assessment of malaria situation in Turkmenistan, held by the WHO Study Group in 2009-2010, which is followed by expert review.
The relevant certificate issued by the WHO to the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, also says that Turkmenistan's status as a malaria-free country will be published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record of the organization and noted during the forthcoming 64th Assembly of WHO scheduled for May 2011.
