New Turkmen ambassador to Azerbaijan Toyli Komekov handed a copy of credentials on his appointment to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

The newly appointed ambassador conveyed the greetings and high respect on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to the leadership of Azerbaijan, a spokesman for the embassy Bibisara Mammadova told Trend.

The meeting focused on prospects of bilateral cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres.

Azerbaijani FM stressed that Azerbaijani side considers a high honor the Turkmen President's decision to appoint Toyli Komekov Turkmenistan's ambassador to the country.

Experience of a new ambassador, who held several posts in the government of Turkmenistan, will make a great contribution to the development of bilateral relations, said the minister, the press secretary of the embassy said.

Dec. 23, 2010, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appointed Toyli Komekov as an ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Prior to his appointment to Azerbaijan, Komekov two years served as deputy foreign minister of Turkmenistan, chairman of the Company on the Caspian Sea under Turkmen President. From 2006 to 2009 he headed the State Committee for Fisheries of Turkmenistan.

Over recent years, relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have been actively developing in various fields. In November last year, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Azerbaijan to attend the third summit of Caspian littoral states. In November, the Azerbaijani capital hosted Days of Culture of Turkmenistan, as well as next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
