President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has inspected the construction of Valvalachay-Takhtakorpu channel`s 10.7km-long first section.
The construction of the Valvalachay-Takhtakorpu channel is part of a project to reconstruct the Samur-Absheron irrigation system. The project, to be implemented in 4 stages in 14 years, also envisages the construction of Takhtakorpu Water Reservoir and Takhtakorpu-Jeyranbatan Channel.
The construction of the first section of the Valvalachay-Takhtakorpu channel was funded by the Islamic Development Bank. The channel is 31.45km in length, 4m in width and 4.3m in depth. The channel`s capacity is 75 cubic meters of water per second.
The President pushed a button to officially start the channel`s first section.
The Head of State was told of the technical features of the channel`s second section, whose construction will be funded by the State Oil Fund. The construction of the second facility will complete in 2012.
