Syrian President Bashar Assad does not rule the country, said at a press conference Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, CNN Turk reported.

"Syrian President can not govern. Turkey has always been and will be close to the Syrian people", - said Erdogan.

In Syria, for nine months did not stop anti-government protests, which began in mid-March. Recently, the peaceful protests are becoming more and more violent. Daily reports of deaths of people - both civilians and uniformed personnel.

According to UN statistics, the number of victims of clashes in the country exceeds 5000 people.
