Azerbaijani Embassy in Italy has not received information about the presence of Azerbaijani tourists on board of Italian liner Costa Concordia, which ran aground.

"So far, no one contacted the Embassy regarding affected or even presence of Azerbaijani citizens among the liner passengers. The Consular Department of the Embassy is currently in contact with local authorities and is clarifying this issue," the Embassy in Rome told Trend on Saturday.

The Italian ship Costa Concordia this night ran aground near the island of Giglio, off the Tuscan coast. According to an official report of the vessel owner - Italian tourism company Costa Crociere, there were about 3,200 passengers and about 1,000 crew members, including several hundred foreigners on board when the accident happened.

According to a recent statement made by Prefect of the Tuscan Province of Grossetto Giuseppe Linardi, the accident killed three people, and some people went missing as a result of the accident.

According to media reports, in addition to the Italians, there are many foreign tourists - Russian, German, British and Japanese among the liner passengers.
