Deputy PM: Turkey seeks to join EU to develop democracy

Turkey is seeking to join the EU to develop democracy, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said today, Anadolu agency reported.
According to him, the country could be a burden for the EU 10-15 years ago, but today it has a different value for the EU.
Turkey will continue its efforts to join the EU, he added.
Turkey's economy is much more developed than that of some EU countries, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said earlier.
Official negotiations on Turkey's accession began in 2005.
