Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland has congratulated President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on his victory in the April 11 election.
"Dear President, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on being re-elected President of Azerbaijan," he said.
"I look forward to working closely with you to ensure that human rights, democracy and rule of law standards, based on the European Convention on Human Rights, prevail in Azerbaijan during your term of office," reads the congratulatory letter.
