Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Ali Karimli, the chairman of the Popular Front Azerbaijan party, stated on 1 May that he was ready to discuss any proposals on the unification of opposition. He also voiced his disagreement regarding the unification of the opposition to be considered as obligatory. "On the one hand, no one can be prohibited to declare himself as an oppositionist. But on the other hand, it does not mean that the opinions of all members should correspond," Karimli noted.
The chairman considers that the unification should be based on community of ideology. Unification of all forces who declare themselves as opposition is ridiculous. "There are such forces in Azerbaijan that declare themselves as the opposition and then participate in falsifying the elections, and other times speak in support of the government. Why should we seek obligatory unification with them?" he said.
