Azerbaijani Political Scientist not Consider Himself Blame in Bribe Taking

Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 January / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / Rovshan Novruzoglu, the detained director of the Anti-terrorism and Corruption Centre, did not consider himself blame during the court trial held on 24 January.

The Prosecutor read out the verdict at the process, Trend reported.

Novruzoglu was detained on the grounds of documents submitted by the Baku Executive Power to the Prosecutor General's Office. The investigation was implemented by the Investigation Department on Heinous Crimes at the Prosecutor General's Office.

Novruzoglu's lawyer Tofig Allahverdiyev brought a petition to Court to allow Novruzoglu to testify after evidences by witnesses and sufferers. The Court satisfied the petition.

The sufferer Fikrat Huseynov, the resident of Baku, stated in his evidences, that he gave %115,000 to Ilham Abbas in order to purchase the 115 square metre of land in the Khatai District of Baku. Huseynov was assured that the sum would be paid as the state duties and gave him a list to put his signature. Later the sum was misappropriated by Novruzoglu. However, Novruzoglu denied the evidence.

The process was postponed for 28 January.

Novruzoglu has been charged with contravening Article 320.1 (falsification of documents), Article 320.2 (use of false documents) and Article 310 (appropriation powers of officials) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. Novruzoglu was imprisoned on the basis of documents submitted by the Executive Administration of Baku City to the Prosecutor General's Office of Nasimi District. Novruzoglu represented himself as the official of the Prosecutor Office and the Department against corruption at the Prosecutor General's Office. The Investigation Department on Grave Crimes at the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan is holding investigations into the case. The political scientist is imprisoned in the National Security Ministry.
