Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 August / Trend , corr J. Babayeva/ The State Committee for the Work with Religious Associations of Azerbaijan describes the blast in Abu Bakr Mosque as an act of terrorism and condemns it.
On 17 August at 09.00P.M, blast took place in the Abu Bekir Mosque during the evening prayers which killed three and injured eight.
"We hope that the investigation will reveal the motives, organizers and committers of the crime and those guilty for the blast will be punished in accordance with a law," State Committee said on 18 August.
In the evening of 17 August, unknown man broke Mosque's window with stone and threw RGD-1 grenades into the Mosque.
Gamat Suleymanov, the Imam of the Mosque, got slight injury and discharged after the primary medical aid.
According to the Baku City Public Prosecutor's Office, the case is being investigated at the Baku city Public Prosecutor's Office and criminal case was filed on Articles 120.2.4 (deliberate homicide through general dangerous method) and 120.2.7 (deliberate homicide of two or more people) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.
Mainly, people, who belong to Vahhabi sect, do their prayers in the Abu Bakir Mosque. In 2008, the Azerbaijani National Security Ministry and the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations conducted operations in this Mosque and withdraw religious books which are banned to be spread.
Eldar Mahmudov, the National Security Minister, and Ramil Usubov, the Interior Minister came to the place of incident on 17 August. Officials did not comment on the details of this incident.
