It is Wrong to Give Prizes to Footballers after Azerbaijan-Wales Match: Former AFFA President

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 September/ Trend , corr R. Ergun/ Former President of Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) Fuad Musayev believes it is wrong to give prizes to footballers though they lost Wales only by 0:1.

"I was informed that AFFA has given a prize of AZN 5,000 to each footballer after a match with Wales. What does it mean? During my term of office, though our team drew the match with Moldova in Baku, I did not give them any prize. On the contrary, I severely criticized the team as they did not deserve any prize," Musayev said to Trend .

Musayev resigned from the post of AFFA president in 2003. His term of office is noted with the construction of Shafa stadium in Baku.

Though Azerbaijani team drew the match with Lichtenstein, the chief coach should continue his efforts in the team.

"The match with Lichtenstein should not be exaggerated. You never know what is going to happen in football. I am pleased with the current leadership of AFFA since they have invited German trainer to Azerbaijan. We should support Vogts," Musayev said.

Musayev said the major problem of Azerbaijani football is the large number of foreign prisoners in both national team and clubs. "The limit set for the number of foreign players must be revised. Otherwise, it will lead to collapse of the team. I was very embarrassed when I saw An African footballer in a testing match with Iran".

At present, the national football team of Azerbaijan includes players from Brazil, Russia, Nigeria and Serbia.
