Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 October / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / Huseyn Bagirov, the Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, assessed pollution of the Tartar river by Armenia as total war means.

"Armenia uses total means in the war with Azerbaijan. Armenia is not sure of its possessing the occupied lands. Therefore, this country exploits the Azerbaijan lands and natural resources with enmity through the use of all forces," Bagirov told journalists on 7 October.

Houses, which are located along the Tartar river, are banned to use water of the river, because Armenians have thrown toxic substances into the river lately. A total of 90% of water of the river is useless. Polluted water of surrounding water sources, including the Sarsang lake, is poured into the Tartar river.

According to the Minister, at present Armenia uses the Sarsang reservoir with animosity purposes.

"The Sarsang reservoir was built by Azerbaijan to irrigate lands of low-lying and lower Karabakh. When Armenia opens reservoir in winter, the Azerbaijani villages remained under water, whilst they close reservoir in summer," Bagirov said.

Armenia has occupied 20% of Azerbaijan's lands including Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding seven regions. The occupation began in 1988. Azerbaijan lost the Nagorno-Karabakh, except of Shusha and Khojali, in December 1991. In 1992-93, Armenian Armed Forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and Nagorno-Karabakh's seven surrounding regions. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group (Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding peaceful, but fruitless negotiations.
