Azerbaijani Prosecutor General: Estimated 18 criminal cases filed in Azerbaijan this year

In attempts to combat corruption, about 18 criminal cases were filed this year prosecuting 32 people, Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said at a forum on fighting corruption.

In attempts to combat corruption, about 18 criminal cases were filed this year prosecuting 32 people, Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said at a forum on fighting corruption.

He said that between 2005-2011 about 388 criminal cases were filed against 700 individuals in attempts to fight against corruption. At present, about 84 criminal cases are being reviewed.

Roughly 1,200 appeals were filed with the correctional department under the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office, via a hot line. Roughly seven criminal cases were filed, with seven arrests made.

About 237 of all the appeals were resolved with positive outcomes, 337 remain under departmental consideration; 174 by district Prosecutor's offices and 692 via the relevant bodies, Garalov said.
