Moldova believes that more funding should be allotted to medicine in CIS countries.

"The most important issue for all CIS countries is financing medicine," Moldovan Health Minister Andrei Usatii told journalists in Baku on Monday.

"Financing determines the strategy and structure of the medicine. Theretofore, one of the main discussion topics at the Baku meeting of the European Regional Bureau of the World Health Organization (WHO) is to find funding for health priorities," he said.

He named among the list of priorities - the provision of financial assistance to the health-care system, improving the quality of care, safety testing, and treatment.

The 61st session of the WHO Regional Office for Europe began in Baku today.
About 350 representatives from 53 countries will be attending the session, including health ministers and representatives of other state agencies.

The session at the national and regional level will focus on five vital issues - combating infectious diseases, tuberculosis, AIDS, alcoholism, and resistance to antibiotics and their use.

Moreover, the Azerbaijani government and the European Regional Office will conclude a two-year agreement within the framework of the Baku session.

Azerbaijan became a member of the WHO in 1992.
