17 percent of the population older than 15 years is obese in Turkey, the Turkish Statistics Institute's report on 2012 posted on its website says on Friday.

According to the report, 34.8 percent of the population is overweight, 44.2 per cent - normal weight, while 3.9 per cent - underweight.

Among women, 20.9 percent are obese, while about 30 percent - overweight. Among men, these figures are 13.7 and 39 percent respectively.

According to the report, in Turkey, five percent of children under 15 years of age suffer from obesity related problems.
