BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. In connection with the appeal of Keshla settlement residents to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev about the long stay of Shah Abbas mosque without repair and without a minaret, the project of capital repair and restoration of the mosque and construction of a new minaret was prepared on the President's instructions, and the relevant work started, Trend reports.

In accordance with the project, the Shah Abbas Mosque was inspected by the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Construction and Architecture, engineering expertise was conducted, and a conclusion on its technical condition was given. In accordance with the conclusion, a construction project was developed.

Strengthening work was carried out on the foundation. During the reinforcement work, special attention was paid to the preservation of the original historic appearance of the building, and the weathering stones of the facade were restored and renewed. The plastering work carried out later inside was dismantled, and the internal facing stones used in the construction of the mosque were restored to their historic appearance.

The dome covering of the mosque was replaced with a new one, and a new minaret 20 meters high was built in accordance with the architectural style of the building. The unsuitable auxiliary building in the courtyard was demolished and rebuilt on an area of 525 square meters. There is a room for the imam, a hall for memorial dinners (for 80 seats), an additional prayer hall (for 70 seats), rooms for the ablution of men and women, a kitchen, a warehouse, a boiler room, and a utility room. Two entrance gates and a decorative fence 52 meters long were built to enter the courtyard of the mosque, complementing the overall architectural style.

The mosque was built on the instructions of Shah Abbas in the XVII century from limestone in the shape typical for Absheron mosques, with an area of 139 m2 (11.8x11.8) and a total area of 1300 m2 (0.13 hectare), and is an architectural monument of local importance (Inventory No. 2860), protected by the state.

In addition, improvement and repair work was carried out on the adjacent territories of the Shah Abbas Mosque, Kamran Afkari, and Mashadi Hilal Kazimov. Streets, sidewalks, fences along the streets, facades of catering and service facilities, residential buildings, and the unsuitable roofing of some houses were renewed. The pavement of nearby yards was asphalted, communication lines and street fences were repaired, the lighting system was reconstructed, greenery was planted, and a large number of new trees, ornamental shrubs, and flowers were planted.

Also, repair work was carried out on Keshla Martyrs Alley, a new spring complex was built, and a rest area was created.

The above-mentioned work was carried out by the Nizami District Executive Authority.
