Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The Ombudswoman has received over 30,000 appeals since the beginning of her activities. The Ombudswoman, Elmira Suleymanova, said to journalists on 18 June that the appeals mainly relate to violation of civic, economic and political rights.

According to the Ombudswoman, necessary measures on protection of the aforementioned rights have already been already assumed. Suleymanova noted that she had put forward the proposal to undertake independent control over implementation of the National Plan on Activities on Human Rights approved last year.

Cases of tortures were registered in prisons and temporary cells in police stations. However, their number have decreased compared to previous years, the Ombudswoman said.

According to Suleymanova, citizens mainly undergo beatings and torture while in detention.
