Remains of More than 120 People Discovered in Mass Grave in District of Guba

Trend E.Huseynli / The remains of more than 120 people were found during an examination of the mass grave discovered in the district of Guba in Azerbaijan, said the Deputy Director of the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, Najaf Museibli.

According to him, the dig will continue to fully study the cemetery. An area of 400 sq.m has already been investigated. Musabeyli said that the dig will continue until the remains of all the bodies are discovered.

The mass burial site was discovered in Azerbaijan's district of Guba during the construction of a new stadium. As a result, an expert group was established, digs were carried out in area of 100 sq.m and the remains of more than 50 people were discovered. The members of the expert group and historians determined that the remains are the victims of a genocide committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijanis in 1918. It is stated that the victims also include Jews. A monument will be erected there after the search is complete.
