Kazakhstan to Chair at TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission in 2008: Deputy Transport Minister

Kazakhstan, Astana / corr Trend K.Konirova / Kazakhstan will undertake the chairmanship at the TRACECA intergovernmental commission next year, Jenis Kasimbek, the Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, said to the 6th meeting of the intergovernmental commission of the TRACECA member-countries in Astana on 12 December.

"This year Bulgaria held the chairmanship at the organization and next year Kazakhstan is to undertake the chairmanship," he said.

According to the vice premier, the meeting in Astana will resolve the issue on re-election of Rustan Jenalinova, a representative of Kazakhstan, as the chairman of the Permanent Council of the intergovernmental commission of TRACECA.

The agenda of the 6th meeting of the intergovernmental commission of the TRACECA member-countries also include signing a special document on Romania and Bulgaria.

"One of issue we are considering is the harmonization of legislation so that to remove the existing barriers on this corridor," the Vice Premier said.

The European Union in TRACECA as an independent participant in the project. Bulgaria and Romania also are independent participants in the project.

"In connection with entrance of these two countries to the EU, there appeared a legal collision and dual situation. During the meeting we will make a decision and sign a relevant document, which says that though Bulgaria and Romania will become members of the EU, they will separately represent their countries in TRACECA corridor," the minister said.
