WB to Assist Azerbaijan in Development Master Plan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 April / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / The State Committee on Architecture and City Building is developing a master plan of Azerbaijan, stated Jahangir Gojayev- the head of international relations department of the committee, on 2 April.

"The plans of Sheki, Shemakha, Yevlakh and Masally have been developed," Gojayev said.

According to Gojayev, the master plan of Azerbaijan is still developing with the active support of World Bank.

In June 2007, the World Bank approved of a project on improvement of water supply and sewerage system of small cities with the budget of $230mln. The project will cover 22 districts of Azerbaijan.

The project includes three components. Investment in the water supply infrastructure and sewage systems is envisaged in the first stage. The project will cover twenty regions of Azerbaijan including Agstafa, Bilasuvar, Geranboy, Gabala, Guba, Saatli, Oguz, Khanlar, Tovuz, Zakatala, Hajigabul, Kazakx, Gakh, Mingachevir, Sabirabad, Samukh, Shamkir, Tartar and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

In the second stage, there are plans to render technical assistance for the development of general plan for development of the water supply system in Baku and Absheron Peninsula.

The third component includes institutional modernization of the company Azersu by introducing international standards of financial accounting for the improvement in the billing system.

Implementation of the project is expected to continue until 2012.
