Cargo transportation reduced in Kazakhstan: Minister

As a result of 2009, cargo transportation decreased by 15 percent in Kazakhstan, Kazakh Transport and Communications Minister Abelgazy Kussainov said at the ministry's expanded meeting, where Prime Minister Karim Masimov also participated.

"In early 2009, decrease in goods and cargo transportation estimated at 15 percent amid crises in the country's economy. Thus, according to the operative data, the total amount of cargo transportation decreased by 2.8 percent compared to 2008. Cargo turnover fell by 6 percent, " he added.  

He said the number of passengers increased by 4.2 percent.

Kusainov said the Ministry's budget in 2009 amounted to 262 billion tenge ($ 1 - 148 tenge).

According to the minister, the volume of cargo transit through the territory of Kazakhstan amounted to 15.2 million tons.

"Revenues worth $ 96.6 billion tenge were received. For comparison, the income from the transit amounted to 84.2 billion tenge in 2008," - said the minister.
