Azerbaijan and Netherlands discuss prospects for expanding cooperation in customs

The Netherlands Kingdom attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields, Netherlands's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Jan Lucas Inayat van Hoorn said at the meeting with Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Head Aydin Aliyev, the committee said.

"At the current climate of global financial crisis, the countries are interested in preserving both the bilateral and multilateral relations," the ambassador said.

He said his country wants to continue the existing trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan and to extend them.

The customs authorities of the two countries do not have any problem to enhance future cooperation, the ambassador said adding about the future prospects of bilateral relations between the structures.

At the meeting, Aliyev spoke about the existing political and cultural relations between the two countries and expressed confidence in their further expansion. Speaking about trade and economic relations between countries, Aliyev said the customs system serves as a bridge for their development.

"The agreement signed between the two countries' customs services in 2002 gives additional impetus for expansion of cooperation and effective activities, and speeds up the mutual integration of the parties," the  said.

According to him, the customs authorities have great potential to be used for expansion of ties in the customs area.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, in January-October 2009, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands Kingdom amounted to $106.306 million, $40.92 million of which fell to imports and $65.43 million - exports.
