Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Oct. 8 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov approved the law to introduce a new Customs Code from January 1, 2011.

The Turkmen Customs Code, adopted by the Parliament on October 8, 1993, will be invalid from this period.

The new law aims at regulating the activity of the customs system of the country on the basis of the existing national legislation and universally recognized norms of international law.

While considering a new legislation by the Parliament in late September 2010, it was noted that this document is intended to promote further development of Turkmenistan's foreign trade, which is one of the important areas of national economic strategy and the Open Door Policy, as well as mutually beneficial cooperation with all interested foreign partners.

The Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers will bring regulations in line with the new Customs Code for three months.
