Kazakh airport is issued international III B category

Kazakh Almaty International Airport was issued International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) III B category on Thursday, the Kazakh Ministry of Transport and Communications reported.

This category puts Almaty Airport among the best airports in the world in accordance with its technical equipment.

ICAO IIIB category envisages possibility of landing with visual range not less than 75 meters decision height not lower than 15 meters.

Almaty airport is located in the sub-mountain area and has some 35 foggy days per year. A total of 268 flights were delayed in 2010 by force of unfavorable weather conditions.

Earlier Almaty airport's lighting equipment met the requirements of ICAO IIIA which envisages landing with visual range not less than 200 meters.

Almaty airport is the first airport in the CIS which reached ICAO Category IIIB.
