Azerbaijani and the Russian sides in Baku agreed to set up expert groups to implement a project to repair the existing and construct a new bridge across the Samur river, the Russian Transport Ministry said.

Previously, the parties held talks in Baku on the state of the bridge over the Samur river at checkpoints Yarag-Kazmalyar and Samur.

The Russian delegation was headed by Transport Minister Igor Levitin. The delegation included representatives of ministries, departments and organizations.

In the negotiations on the status of the bridge over the Samur river it was noted that bridge currently operating near the border crossing points Yarag-Kazmalyar (Russia) and Samur (Azerbaijan) is a key element of the transport system that provides transportation of goods by road between Russia and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani and Russian experts agreed on the need to build a new bridge in the vicinity of the crossing points Yarag-Kazmalyar - Samur.

"In addition, the parties agreed to expedite the signing of a draft intergovernmental agreement on the repair of the existing bridge and to prepare a draft intergovernmental agreement on building a new bridge in the vicinity of the crossing points Yarag-Kazmalyar - Samur," the statement said.

During the repair of the bridge passage of commercial vehicles if necessary may be carried out through the checkpoints Novo-Filya (Russian Federation) - Shirvanovka (Azerbaijan).
