Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct.21/ Trend F.Karimov/

The expansion of Iran's national railroad network does not keep up with the projected figures, IRIB quoted MP Ali-Akbar Aqaei as saying.

Some 1000 kilometres of railroad should be constructed each year by 2025, but just 350-400 kilometres are being built, he added.

A budget deficit and inefficient management are the main causes of delay in railroad construction projects, he said.

Based on statistics released by the International Union of Railways (UIC) in 2007, the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways operates 7300 kilometres of railroads.
