Azerbaijan decreases agricultural production

In January-July, 2014 the agricultural production volume in Azerbaijan was 2.99 million AZN in current prices, falling by 4.2 percent in comparison with the same period of last year, according to a report from Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.
According to the report, during the mentioned period, the production of livestock goods rose by three percentage points, while the crop production increased by 10.8 percent.
As of June 1, 2014, Azerbaijan held a strict control of sown areas. The total area of the sown areas of the country was 1,612,700 hectares, or 4.2 percent less than the same period of last year.
Out of the total planted areas some 1,000,500 hectares (or 62 percent) were cereal and legume sown areas, 43,700 hectares (3.6 percent) - industrial crop sown areas, 165,800 hectares (10.3 percent) - potato, vegetable and melon sown areas, and 402,700 hectares (25 percent) - forage plant sown areas.
In particular, during the reporting period, Azerbaijan produced 948,500 tons of grain (excluding maize). An average of 22.8 quintal of grain was harvested from one hectare of the sown areas.
Taking into account the collected maize, the grain production in January-July, 2014 amounted to 2,176,300 tonnes.
In the mentioned period, farms produced 717,800 tons of vegetables, 466,100 tonnes of potatoes, 325,100 tons of cucurbitaceous plants, 176,600 tonnes of fruits and berries.
During the reporting period, the country produced 252,400 tonnes of meat in live weight, 1,103,600 tonnes of milk, 889.1 million eggs, and 15.4 tonnes of wool.
As compared to January-July 2013, the meat production in Azerbaijan in this period of 2014 rose by 1.7 percent, milk - by 3.5 percent, eggs - by 11.3 percent, and wool - by 1.6 percent.
