By Temkin Jafarov - Trend:

Iran Air national airline of Iran has suspended the operation of flights on Tehran-Baku-Tehran route, the company's Baku office head Mojtaba Gholamian told Trend on Dec. 2.

He said Iran Air's expenses in Azerbaijan are big and do not cover themselves, which in turn hinders the company's further activities in the country.

"To date, the airline's activity in the country has been unprofitable," Gholamian added.

He said Iran Air has suspended the operation of flights on Tehran-Baku-Tehran route since Oct.27, adding that such situation is expected to continue till late January 2015.

"At present, we have no information on whether the flights on Tehran-Baku-Tehran route will be resumed after January 2015," he said.

Gholamian added that negotiations are underway on this issue and expressed hope that the flights on this route will be resumed.

An informed source earlier told Trend that the flights to Baku have been suspended due to the lack of aircraft in the Iran Air company in connection with the Hajj pilgrimage.

The source said that due to large Hajj pilgrimage passenger flow, the airline has attracted more aircraft which fly between Tehran and Baku to reduce the load.

This passenger flow will decrease by late January and the flights to Baku will be resumed, the source said.
