WB talks good progress in waste management project implementation

World Bank (WB) has already allocated $45.14 million (95.8 percent of the total cost of the project) as part of the additional funding envisaged for the Integrated Solid Waste Management Project (ISWMP) in Azerbaijan, the WB report said.

According to the WB analysts, the project is being implemented. In general, the bank stressed the good progress achieved within ISWMP.

"The work has already been successfully carried out as part of the main project,” the WB report said. “It is planned to complete the remaining work as part of additional financing until March 30, 2018."

“The legal framework will be reviewed and the remaining work will be completed as part of the National Strategy for Solid Waste Management till the end of March 2018," the WB report said.

The main project on the solid waste management was approved in June 2008. Its total cost is $41.5 million, $29.5 million of which accounts for the WB loan and the rest part -the Azerbaijani government’s funds. Additional funding worth $47.1 million was approved in June 2013.

Azerbaijan joined the WB in 1992.
