Kazakh, Russian regions launching tourism co-op

East Kazakhstan and Russia's Altay Region signed a memorandum on cooperation in tourism sector during the Forum on Cross-Border Cooperation, held in Chelyabinsk, the press service of the Kazakh region said in a message.

Head of the East Kazakhstan executive body, Danial Akhmetov, said during the forum that the region increased the number of tourism venues, including the Ablaikit monastery, as a place of "convergence" of the three world religions - Islam, Christianity and Buddhism - and Belukha Mountain, a the center of the Eurasian continent.

“Organization of tourist routes along these landmarks will be of interest not only to Kazakh, but also to Russian tourists,” said Akhmetov.

Akhmetov also stressed that East Kazakhstan is open for a constructive dialogue and is ready for mutually beneficial cooperation on all vectors of integration.

Kazakhstan and Russia also aim to further develop the cooperation in tourism by creating favorable conditions and increasing the tourist exchange.

The Forum on Interregional Cooperation of Kazakhstan and Russia will be held in 2018 in Petropavlovsk. The forum will be dedicated to the development of tourism between the two countries.
