Alat FEZ to add more opportunities for cargo owners east of Caspian Sea

The Alat Free Economic Zone (FEZ) project in Azerbaijan will add more opportunities for cargo owners east of the Caspian Sea, APM Terminals, based in the Netherlands, told Trend.

“With regards to the new port and free zone development in Alat we are very much looking forward to seeing it become fully operational. The project is very important for improving supply chain for the Central Asian countries and the new Silk Route. It will add more opportunities and higher quality service for cargo owners east of the Caspian Sea,” said the company.

In addition to that the value added activities in the free zone will enhance the quantity and quality of the goods that we will see being imported and exported, according to APM Terminals.

“We are looking forward to considerable growth in cargo transportation coming from Azerbaijan based on transit cargoes from Central Asia and the new Silk Route,” said the company.

The FEZ is being created in the Alat settlement in line with the Azerbaijani president’s order signed in March 2016. The territory of the new Baku International Sea Trade Port is also included in the FEZ.

It is one of the world's largest port and terminal operators as well as providing cargo support and container Inland Services, and is the largest port and terminal operating company in terms of overall geographic scope.
