The “Law on Public Procurement” helped save over 113.2 billion soums (over $14 million) in three months, Uzbek media reported referring to the "Public procurement and provision of services to citizens" workshop at the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent.

The event was organized by the World Bank with participation of the National Project Management Agency (NPMA) under the president of Uzbekistan.

Anna Palvanova, head of the Office for Harmonization of Legislation of NPMA, noted that the said law came into force in April 2018 and after almost six months a positive effect is evident.

According to the representative of the agency, during the period of budgeting all subjects of public procurement need to pay special attention to the planning of purchases for the next year, as well as provide training to government buyers, since this is a new profession requiring special training.

Since March 1, 2019, the procedure for compulsory certification of specialists in the sphere of public procurement has been introduced. Free courses on “Public procurement management” are being taught in the Higher School of Business and Management.
