Location of the Navoi International Intermodal Logistics Center (IILC) and its technical characteristics give a great chance for Navoi to play an important role in transportation of goods by air between Silk Road countries, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) representative told Trend.

To make this a reality, the IATA rep underlined, it is necessary to prepare a long-term project on how to develop the Navoi IILC to meet better the requirements of all participants in the air cargo value chain.

“IATA recognizes the fact that Republic of Uzbekistan has made a great achievement in building up a modern air cargo center in Navoi… and is ready to provide any support for further development of Navoi IILC as included in our joint action plan with Uzbekistan Airways,” the representative said.

The IATA rep reminded that the Uzbekistan Airways and the IATA Europe approved a seven-year plan for joint actions, where strategic tasks were formalized. Based on this plan, IATA committed to assist Uzbekistan in several directions.

“IATA will provide consultancy services for further development of the Navoi IILC and will support Uzbekistan Airways in its efforts to make this airport more attractive for foreign airlines. One of these actions is specifically related to CEIV Pharma certification of the cargo terminal in Navoi,” the representative added.

Uzbekistan intends to turn the Navoi IILC into a logistics hub for Central Asia.

The Navoi IILC was created jointly by the Uzbekistan Airways and the Korean Air at the international airport of the city of Navoi. The center is one of the largest and most technologically advanced cargo complexes in the region. The total area of the complex is 16,000 square meters.
