Tehran, Iran, Oct. 12

Tehran City Council Chairman Mohsen Hashemi Rafsanjani said that domestic carmakers will manufacture some 19,000 buses for the country’s suburban transport fleet.
“Plans are underway to manufacture parts needed for 19,000 buses,” Hashemi told IRNA on October 12.
Domestic car manufacturers are capable of producing 60 percent of the bus parts, and we import the remaining parts, he added.
The buses will be produced upon an order by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the head of Tehran city council said, adding that production of trucks is also on the agenda.
Buses account for 23 percent of all transportation in Tehran. The city needs at least 10,000 buses for its daily commuting needs, while there are 7,000, a portion of which are "off duty" for repairs, according to the municipality.
