Turkistan region – first in Kazakhstan in meat export

For the first 9 months of 2018, the number of cattle in Kazakhstan’s Turkistan region increased by 11 percent and amounted to 972,600 heads, acting head of the region’s agriculture department Nurbek Badyrakov said.

"In accordance with the increase in livestock, meat production rose by 7 percent. As a result, 154,700 tons of meat were produced,” he added.

In general, 4,500 tons of cattle meat were exported to the countries of near and far abroad. In terms of meat exports, the Turkistan region ranks first in Kazakhstan, according to Badyrakov.

He also noted that to date, in accordance with the long-term program of meat livestock development for 2018-2027, a plan of future work in the Turkistan region has been developed. This plan was agreed upon and approved by the Agriculture Ministry.

The plan envisages increasing the breeding stock of cattle to 1.219 million by 2027, bringing its import to 36,000 heads, as well as acquiring the breeding stock of cattle from farms, where this figure is set to be increased to 150,000 heads.
