Iran needs about $476M to complete Qazvin-Rasht railroad - minister

Acquisition of 11,000 freight and passenger railcars together with 220 locomotives is on the agenda of Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said, Trend reports via IRNA news agency.

He said that negotiations with local companies on the purchase of railcars have started.

He noted that the laying of the Qazvin-Rasht railroad to Anzali and Astara cities is nearing completion. So far, 18.6 trillion rials (about $442 million) have been spent on the construction of the railway, he added, noting that 20 trillion rials (about $476 million) are needed to complete the project and commission it.

At least 48 months are needed to complete laying of this railway, he said. The necessary programs have been regulated in this direction.

The connection of the railway network to neighboring countries, increasing number of railways in the provinces, and connecting major industrial facilities to the railways are among the priorities of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, he said.
