In 2018, tobacco production increased by about 20 percent in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tobacco Producers and Exporters Association Telman Hasratov told Trend.
Hasratov noted that a similar increase in production (by about 15-20 percent) is expected in 2019.
Tobacco production amounted to 5,213.2 tons in Azerbaijan in 2017, according to official statistics.
The largest volumes of tobacco production in Azerbaijan are concentrated in the Balakan, Shaki, Ismayilli, Gabala, Lerik and Masalli districts of the country.
The State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan has earlier reported that during the 11 months of 2018, 5,700 tons of tobacco were harvested in Azerbaijan, which is 13.3 percent more compared to the same period of 2017. During the period, the country produced tobacco products worth 38.6 million manats, which is over 2.2 times higher than in January-November 2017.
