By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

Uzbekistan intends to produce paper made of stone according to a set of measures on the accelerated development of the building materials industry in 2019-2020, Trend reports with reference to Uzbek media.

The Ministry of Economy and Industry is appointed responsible for studying foreign experience and technological processes for the production of paper from stone. The ministry will attract foreign investors and specialists to organize new production in the country and take other steps to identify nonmetallic mineral deposits required for its organization, reads the message.

Stone paper (stonepaper, rockpaper, paperfromwastemarble, mineralpaper, richmineralpaper) is a paper-like material made from calcium carbonate and low-pressure polyethylene HDPE. It is used as an alternative to paper for the manufacture of leaflets, posters, books, magazines, packages, wallpapers, labels, plates, trays, containers and many other products.

The process of creating stone paper was developed in the late 90s of the last century by Taiwan Lung Meng Technology Co. and patented in more than 40 countries by the trademarks of Rockstock, Terraskin, ViaStone, Kampier and EmanaGreen.

Stone paper is a durable, waterproof, tear-resistant material. It does not require water, acids, bleaching and wood for manufacturing, therefore, it can reduce deforestation. Moreover, the stone paper is recyclable.

It is not decomposed by microorganisms, but in nature it is quickly decomposed into basic components. It consists of calcium carbonate, one of the most common substances on the planet, for 80 percent and of low-pressure polyethylene for 20 percent.
